Free-feeding October 31, 2006

I have no particular preference or opinion about how to feed pets. Every animal is different in their eating habit. I believe keeping good health through good nutrition is always the most important thing.

As far as our pets are concerned, I know by experience that both our dog and cat won't stop eating food if we leave it out all day for them. I don't free-feed them for this reason. My husband always says that he can't free-feed our cat because the cat finishes the food in the bowl in minutes, and he keeps eating if we keep pouring food in the bowl. Our cat tends to over-eat. Many cats are known to nibble food a little bit at a time throughout the day, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be true for our cat.

One problem pet owners who free-feed their pets may encounter is difficulty monitoring how much their pets eat every day. It might be also a little harder to monitor their pets' appetite day by day.

What I've heard pet owners (who free-feed their pets) do is that they measure the amount of food first before pouring into the food bowls so that they can know in advance how much they feed their pets. It is a good idea to monitor the appetite and weight of your pets. If you free-feed your pets and are not sure how much you are feeding them every day, you might give it a try and measure the amount of food in advance.

Supplements for Your Pets October 26, 2006

My dog is a nervous type by nature. Because of this personality, she may need more nutrition on a daily basis, compared to calmer dogs.

In order to make sure she's getting enough nutrition, I give my dog daily supplements, in combination with quality food.

HealthyPetNet's Life's Abundance and Advanced Daily Supplement work hand in hand. They are created by the same formulator who puts ingredients in the products so that they compliment each other. Together they call this "Daily Nutritional System". (for cats, click here.)

Supplements are very popular among people these days. It's interesting we don't extend this idea to pets' daily diet. What happens probably is that pet owners, once finding a good quality pet food or diet, become satisfied and stop there, thinking that their choice of food is good enough for their pets. Maybe it is. But every pet is unique and different.

Many factors affect your pets' nutritional needs --- breed type, life stage, personality, living environment and activity level. If you take supplements regularly for maintaining your health, wouldn't you also like to try daily supplement for your pets to maintain their optimum health?
