| Reaching Out to People and Animals in Need |

I donate regularly to support the following non-profit organizations. If you are interested in helping people and animals in need, please visit their websites for more information.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) (www.hsus.org)
This organization promotes the protection of all animals. This is the nation's largest and most powerful animal protection organization. Their campaigns target issues such as factory farming, animal cruelty, the fur trade, puppy mills, animal testing, and so on.
Heifer International (www.heifer.org)
What makes this organization unique and outstanding is the idea of giving families in need a source of food ("not a cup, but a cow") rather than short-term relief. Their global assistance under this concept has promoted self-reliance and hope among people all over the world for more than 60 years. You can donate a share of an animal such as a cow or sheep, for example. Donating an animal means providing ongoing sources of food and income for families who can also pass the offspring of the animal on to their neighbors. Your one-time donation can create ripple effects.
Flagstaff International Relief Effort (F.I.R.E.) (www.fireprojects.org)
If you knit or crochet, you can donate your knitted items to people in Mongolia through this charitable organization. With average winter lows of minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit, Mongolian people and children living in poverty desperately need warmth in winter. 367 people froze to death on its streets in 2004. A simple scarf you knit may be able to save somebody’s life in Mongolia.
Special thanks to Jane Peters, a good friend of mine, who has shown me how to contribute to the world for the better one step at a time by reaching out to people, animals, and the environment with love and compassion.
